QUESTION: Can you describe what “Preserving our Past, Building our Future” means to you as campaign co-chairs?
Rick: “Many generations that came before us sacrificed to insure that St. Luke and The Epiphany would be on 13th Street to serve the people of the neighborhood. It is now our opportunity to insure that the church will be here to welcome and heal people looking for God's grace. Not just for today but for the generations that will come after us.”
Diane: “To me, it means an opportunity for all of us at St. Luke & The Epiphany to do what those who came before us did; ensure a future where others may walk through the doors and bear witness to what God is doing in their lives and the neighborhood.”
QUESTION:Besides the new roof and electrical system do you foresee any additional benefits to the parish as a result of this campaign?
Diane: “I think there are many tangible and intangible benefits for the parish beyond the new roof and electrical system. For example, in working on the campaign I have seen the strengthening of relationships and the bond that holds us together in community.”
Rick: “In addition to the tangible benefits of the roof and electrical system, I think the campaign has already helped to deepen our sense of community. As each of us has had the opportunity to look at our own commitment, we are reminded that each person is important to the work God is doing here.”
QUESTION:If you had to make a prediction of where you see our parish in 5 years what would it be?
Rick: “The great thing about St. Luke's is that we don't know where God will take us. Every week we find new people coming through our doors…While I don't know what we will look like in five years, I am confident that we will be focused on tending to those in need or hurt and celebrating God's healing power manifest in this place.”
Diane: “Wow. That is a tough question. I see us continuing to be a welcoming and safe place for all who enter.”
QUESTION:What would you say to those who might be wondering if our parish can successfully achieve this major goal?
Diane: “I believe we can achieve our goal. I think the results of the needs assessment tell us it is achievable and I know from working on the campaign and seeing the level of commitment and enthusiasm from so many people we have what it takes to make this happen.”
Rick: “…I can feel the enthusiasm of people about this campaign. I think people are up for the challenge. It is a stretch for us to talk about raising $500,000. It is also good for us to look at that number and say it will be hard but we are committed…no matter how much money we raise, we will be a different place as a result. This campaign gives each of us the opportunity to look at the role St. Luke and The Epiphany plays in our lives. It is hard for me to imagine my life without it.”
QUESTION: Any final thoughts on the campaign that you’d like to share with the readers?
Diane: “I think the most important thing to remember is that this campaign is asking each of us to contribute to St Luke & The Epiphany in whatever way we can and that each individual contribution ensures the well-being of the whole.”
